Leicester City have signed former Bolton midfielder Gareth Farrelly on a non-contract basis following his recent departure from Irish club Bohemians. The 31-year old was the player/manager at Bohs until being given his marching orders last month and now the Foxes have handed the former Republic of Ireland international a trial as he looks to come back into English football after a two year absence.

Leicester assistant manager Mike Stowell confirmed that Farrelly and experienced striker Carl Asaba were hoping to earn a deal at the Walkers Stadium over the next couple of weeks.

"Gareth has had spells at Bolton, Everton and Wigan and he now just wants to play football again. We know he is a good player and we will take a look at him. He is a non-contract player and he wants to do some work and get fit. He wants to see where he is." said Stowell

"Carl has been here for two weeks. It was a shame that he had a slight strain during the first week, which meant that he couldn't train fully.
"He had a full week of training last week and he played in the friendly against Derby on Tuesday, as did Gareth.

"We have got no game for 11 days now and that break will allow us to take a really good look at both players."
