The Dietmar Hamann transfer was a historic piece of business for Bolton Wanderers according to the Trotters manager Sam Allardyce. Allardyce saw the former German international back out of an agreement with the Wanderers earlier on this week in order to sign for Manchester City but rather than dwell on the disappointment the Bolton chief is pleased that he has gained the club some money for a player who didn't even kick a ball during his incredibly short stay in Lancashire.

"Didi Hamann is a history breaker, I am the only manager to get £400,000 for a player who has never kicked a ball for the Club." said Big Sam to the official site

The former Liverpool star and his agent where the ones who resurrected the interest in Bolton at the end of last season and Allardyce went on to reveal that Hamann didn't tell him the whole truth when it became apparant that he was unsure of a move to the Reebok Stadium.

"Didi Hamann has disappointed me for two reasons. The first reason is that the player and his agent resurrected the interest in Bolton Wanderers at the end of last season after we'd missed out on him 12 months before. Secondly, he didn't tell the full story when he tried to get out of the agreement he had with us. Because of that, I have managed to get this club £400,000. It is the best transfer deal I have ever done in my life."
