Dietmar Hamann has completed his move to Manchester City as expected but Bolton Wanderers will net themselves a £300,000 compensation fee in the process. The 32-year old German shocked the football world when agreeing to move to the Reebok Stadium from Liverpool on a Free Transfer earlier this summer, only to then turn his back on the move once a deal was agreed.

City have paid their near neighbours a sum of compensation so that the matter does not get presented in front of the courts but the fact that Hamann reneged on a deal in the first place is a very bad sign for football.

Eight years ago West Ham United defender David Unsworth left the Hammers to sign for Aston Villa, but was on the move again after a matter of weeks because his wife wanted to be near their North West home hence the move back to Everton.

In the same summer former Croatian international Robert Jarni rejected a move to Coventry City after a transfer had been agreed.
