Can Doncaster survive SPL issues with Rangers

Doncaster

Much has been said about SPL Chief Exec Neil Doncaster and his role in the whole Rangers saga and whether his position is still tenable or not? I think not!!

For meDoncaster’s position was almost untenable before this whole debacle thanks to his peddling of the 10 team SPL reorganisation a couple of years ago.

He argued at the time there was no other option despite the fans, or his customers, telling him they wanted an end to the structure which has teams playing each other four times a season.

In the end him, and his SPL board, failed to push this through. I think he only survived this as it was felt he was at the beck and call of the clubs.

Interestingly this morning I read one of the proposals put to the SFL clubs to ensure Rangers (or Sevco, or newco etc etc) get accepted into SFL1 is for a 16 team top flight in three years.

This was meant to completely unworkable and would lead to the first mention of Financial Armageddon. How can this now be a workable model only months after the only option was a ten team top flight!!

Doncasterhas been discredited through the whole Rangers saga thanks to some of his misleading statements, particularly the one which said the SPL vote would not happen! The clubs then almost unanimously vote Rangers out of the league.

This has led to a number of scare stories ever since, and what on the surface appears a whole load of lobbying (and if you believe the stories threatening) of the SFL clubs to get Rangers into SFL1.

I would hope when this whole saga ever gets to a conclusion, whatever that may be,Doncasterleaves his position and we get someone in who has something positive to say and listens to the customer base.
