Hearts have been given permission to talk to Raith Rovers Manager John McGlynn with a view to replacing Paulo Sergio.

Vladimir Romanov has found time in his busy schedule of creating statements on newco Rangers, to approach someone to manage the team next year.

The man he is targeting is former Hearts first team coach John McGlynn who has spent the last six years at Kirkcaldy in charge of Raith Rovers, narrowly missing out on promotion to the SPL in season 2009/10.

McGlynn appears to be a safe pair of hands, and at least from his own perspective appears to know what he will be getting into having already had a spell at Tynecastle.

It will be a challenge for McGlynn next season as Hearts look to cut their budget and off load some high earners. Therefore how long will his honeymoon period be with the fans.

Being a former Hearts man will give him time as the fans will take to him quickly, but I am sure if results are not decent by Christmas he could quickly become a man under pressure.

It is a less glamorous appointment than Paul Hartley, Steven Pressley or Colin Cameron, all legendary players during their time at Tynecastle. It probably points to where Romanov thinks Hearts are sitting in the game these days, and is more pragmatic than many of his past appointments.
