Motherwell moved level on points with Rangers thanks to their one goal win over Aberdeen at the weekend, allowing their fans to dream of making the Champions League next season.

Motherwell have spent much of the season in the top three, but had fallen away behind Rangers and Celtic until the Ibrox side were deducted 10 points for going into administration.

 

The points deduction has had Motherwell smelling blood and have only lost one game in their last nine in the SPL, and Saturday’s three points gained fromAberdeenhas seen them move level on points with Rangers.

 

TheFirParkside know they can move three points ahead of Rangers with a win or a draw against Kilmarnock atRugbyParkon Saturday, with Rangers not playing until Sunday against Celtic.

 

This is then followed by Rangers travelling toFirParkthe following week, meaning in two weeks time the Well could be six points ahead of theGlasgowgiants!

 

This is turning the heads of the Well fans, who only weeks ago were thinking of the Europa League next season, but are now thinking of seeing Champions League qualification on the club’s CV.

 

They can also make the Champions League without finishing second if Rangers fail to have their UEFA license renewed.

 

It does seem strange to see the phrase Champions League bound Motherwell creeping into the Scottish Football dictionary.
