Fir Park

Tonight’s game between Motherwell and Dunfermline has been cancelled due to problems caused by high winds.

The word seems to be there is structural damage to the Main Stand at Fir Park, but I am sure there are many fans who will be delighted the game is off tonight.

There has already been one game played at Fir Park this season in high winds, a nil nil draw with Dundee United, and it was universally agreed it spoiled that game.

I was at Firhill on Monday and during that game it was almost impossible for the players to judge the flight of the ball, on or off the ground. Stuart McCall said on MFCTV he had been at the Albion Rovers game on Monday and believes the wind spoiled that one.

We also saw a game at Arbroath abandoned on Monday due to the winds, although you could call every game off at Gayfield for wind from my experience.

I for one am pleased the game is off as I have long believed high winds are the worst conditions to watch games in. A simple pass becomes fraught with danger if the wind gets it, either seeing the pass ending short or being overhit!

I am normally an old school football fan who has resisted change over the years but I am slowly coming round to the arguments for Summer Football, and a way needs to be found to make it happen.
