The SPL started this afternoon, Motherwell were the only winners in the three games, while the other two games, including Rangers v Hearts ended in draws.

The season started with the Champions taking on Hearts at Ibrox and they didn’t get things their own way and were deservedly a goal down at the break. David Obua scoring with a free header in the opening period, with the Rangers defence looking all at sea.

Obua could have made it two before the break but he was denied by McGregor at the front post, and forcing him to hit the ball into the side net. Hearts were the better of the two sides in the opening period and could have been more ahead.

Rangers came out all guns blazing at the start of the second half and were back in the game just before the hour mark when Naismith headed over for the home side.

Both sides had chances at the end of the game with Obua producing another save from McGregor and Papac missing at the other end.

At Fir Park Motherwell were comfortable three goal winners against Inverness in an entertaining match. Two goals in three minutes in the first half set Motherwell up for victory.

The first saw Steven Hammell volley in at the back post from a Humphrey cross, and the second saw Murphy score from a through ball from Nicky Law. Invenress hit the post twice in the first half through Tansey and Foran.

The win was sealed with about ten minutes left when Keith Lasley hit a wonder shot from 20 yards that soared into Esson’s top right hand corner.

At Pittodrie Aberdeen and St. Johnstone fought out a 0-0 draw, with the Dons being reduced to ten men with Ryan Jack being sent off.
