Two games in the SPL and Hamilton lost again at home losing 2-1 to Hibs, while Dundee Utd moved into top six with a 2-0 at Inverness.
Hibs made it an incredible five wins in a row against Hamilton at New Douglas Park tonight. This sees Hibs in touch with the top six and leaves Hamilton looking stranded seven points behind St. Mirren with 11 games to go.
Hibs were a goal up at the break thanks to new signing Sodje who scored just before half time, they virtually sealed it with a Riordan goal with 15 minutes left. Accies consolation came in stoppage time through Flavio Paxiao.
Accies still haven’t won at home this season, and haven’t won at all since October last year, this is surely relegation form and it would now be unlikely if the Lanarkshire club could stay up for a fourth season.
While their opponents tonight have had a remarkable turn around since the closing of the January transfer window and have now won five on the bounce and rather than worrying about the drop they are now looking at the top six.
It does now seem hard to believe that Colin Calderwood was under pressure and Hibs fans were looking for him to be sacked, wonder what they are all thinking now!!
In another top six battle two second half goals saw Dundee United win away at Inverness. The goals came from Buaben and Robertson and moved Untied into the top six above Inverness.
Inverness are on a bit of a slump at the moment having only won two in the last 14, and this has seen them slip back into the bottom six. This is an alarming run Terry Butcher will be desperate to halt, particularly as it looked only a couple of months ago they were favourites to be in the top six for the first time in their short history.
The main danger United have is the number of games they have lost to the weather, which will see them forced to play four games in a week, including a Cup quarter final with Motherwell.
I am sure Peter Houston will be delighted to have his team back in touch and pushing for the top six, this may help take the player’s minds off any tired legs they may be feeling.
