Scarf on track

There were strange scenes of protest at Hampden this afternoon as Aberdeen fans showed their frustration with their club as they crashed out of the League Cup to Celtic.

As the game started the Dons fans were up for the game as they got right behind their side. But as you looked around you did start to wonder where the high levels of optimism and expectation came from.

It is only a matter of weeks since they lost by nine to the same team at Celtic Park, although they did redeem themselves a bit last week by losing to only one at the same venue.

It didn’t take long for the Dons fans to be silenced as Celtic raced into a four goal lead just after half a hour.

This led to many leaving the ground and others throwing scarves and flags on to the Hampden track. There were also calls for the head of Director of Football Willie Miller as the side trooped off at the break.

There also appeared to be boos as the team returned to the field after the break.

Craig Brown has already worked miracles with this team and taken relegation off the table, but the Dons fans seem to have serious short term memory problems and have forgotten where their side were back in December before Brown and Knox took over from McGhee.

They are often accused of having excellent long term memories and living in the 1980s and today’s over reaction will have confirmed that for many people.

Those who did stick with them in the second half were rewarded with a spirited performance and a goal from Scott Vernon to take some of the pain away from the afternoon.
