Almost unbelievably the SPL clubs, who met at Hampden today, have reached a broad agreement to proceed with a top league of 10 teams.

Once again the SPL clubs have met today and ignored the feelings of their customers and have asked the Strategy Group to continue exploring the idea of a top League of ten.

This is despite every survey of supporters carried out rejecting the idea of a top League of ten. Many fans can’t abide the thought of seeing the same teams play four times per season in the League.

There is also the fear that we will see a repeat of the negative football we saw the last time we had a league of ten. This was a result of clubs fearful of relegation, and as result it wasn’t only the football that was negative but there was a fear of introducing youngsters.

They have also given a hint that this will be the top of a pyramid but without giving any details of this structure.

There is now a desire to involve the SFL, but I am not sure if their clubs can say anything about the proposals when there is no meat on the bones yet!

There still seems to be no move to summer football, rather a compromise of starting earlier and taking a winter break.

Apart from the pyramid structure idea none of the ideas put forward so far comes across to me as the “radical” proposals we were promised.

Let’s hope there is still time for conversation and for some of the clubs to listen to their fans (customers) and change their minds…..
