Scotland has once again been hit by a number of cancellations this week thanks to the Arctic blast that has hit the country.

This week the SPL has been hit by three different reasons for the call offs!!

Rangers v St. Mirren was called off on Thursday, this was die to burst popes in the Main Stand at Ibrox, somewhere in the region of 175 pipes burst. This caused roofs to fall in at some of the Hospitality suites.

Then on Friday Aberdeen v Motherwell and St. Johnstone v Dundee Utd went with the authorities deciding the area around the grounds were unsafe. Once again I am sure people will be shopping and going to theatres in these cities.

Finally this morning the Hamilton v Celtic game was called off, this time due to the condition of the pitch at New Douglas Park. The Accies are having problems with their undersoil heating, this has caused them to call off two games in a row.

Given an SPL ruling is clubs should have “adequate pitch protection” the least Accies should be receiving is a slap on the wrist for losing two games.

The SFL have been hit with ten call offs this weekend, with only those grounds with undersoil heating or an artificial surface seeing their games survive. This maybe also tells us the time for 3G surfaces is the way ahead at this level.
