Scotland Boss Craig Levein has been forced to call up a raft of replacements ahead of tomorrow’s friendly with the Faroes.

He had already called up Paul Caddis and Murray Davidson this afternoon, even though the St. Johnstone man is struggling with a knew injury!

Despite this Levein insists tomorrow night's Pittodrie friendly is a worthwhile exercise. "I can say 100% that this game will provide me with a lot of information," he said.

"Let's not forget some of the best players that ever played international football got their chance in friendly matches.

"If we get through this game and I have discovered another two players then I will be delighted with that."

Saunders' call-up is a surprise given his Motherwell team-mate Mark Reynolds was overlooked but the versatile defender was available given he had joined up with Billy Stark's under-21 squad ahead of Wednesday's friendly against Northern Ireland.

Levein tried and failed to bring in Rangers defender Kirk Broadfoot, Watford midfielder Don Cowie, Middlesbrough midfielder Kevin Thomson, Celtic full-back Mark Wilson and Cardiff defender Kevin McNaughton.

Levein’s efforts to put together a squad that has failed to cause any spark in the public’s imagination, and will result in an abysmal crowd at Pittodrie.

Having said that Levein is hoping to have a look at Craig Gordon back in action after injury, Jamie Mackie up front, Charlie Adam in midfield. But is now looking more like a B International rather than a full game….
