Rangers move four points clear at the top, while Accies stay bottom after another day of SPL action

Rangers moved four points ahead of Celtic at the top of the table with a home win over Aberdeen. Hearts then moved into third with their win over St. Johnstone, and Motherwell’s defeat at Easter Rd. Inverness continued their run of good away results to leave Accies struggling at the bottom of the table.

Rangers moved four points clear at the top of the SPL after consigning struggling Aberdeen to a fourth successive defeat.

The hosts were 2-0 up within 32 minutes, Vladimir Weiss's shot adding to Kenny Miller's headed opener, before Jamie Langfield saved Miller's penalty to give the Dons hope.

But the visitors rarely threatened in the second half and Miller, Steven Naismith and Gregg Wylde came close to adding to Rangers' tally.

Hibs 2 Motherwell 1

Derek Riordan returned from suspension to grab both goals as Hibernian got the better of Motherwell at Easter Road.

Nick Blackman fired in an early penalty for the visitors but Riordan replied soon after with a low strike.

Riordan then seized on a dreadful slip from Stephen Craigan to run through and finish clinically.

The second half was a disjointed and bad-tempered affair, with Riordan denied a hat-trick by a wonderful save from Darren Randolph.

Hamilton 1 Inverness 3

Inverness extended their undefeated run of away league matches to 17 with three second-half goals against Hamilton.

Dougie Imrie opened the scoring for the hosts after 28 minutes with a second of the season against his old club.

After the break, two defensive blunders within seven minutes lead to replies from Adam Rooney and Jonny Hayes.

Bottom-of-the-league Hamilton's woes continued when Rooney added his second with a fine back-post header from close range on the hour.

Things are now looking bleak for the Accies at the bottom of the table.

Dundee Utd 1 Kilmarnock 1

Dundee United and Kilmarnock shared a goal apiece within a minute and had to settle for a point each after an exciting tussle at Tannadice.

Conor Sammon drilled the ball home to break the deadlock on 22 minutes after a Mehdi Taouil through ball.

But Johnny Russell was quickest to respond to Prince Buaben's clever pass and equalised within 60 seconds.

Sammon and Alexei Eremenko went close for Killie after the break, while Jon Daly missed a late chance for United.

St. Johnstone 0 Hearts 2

Ryan Stevenson's late strike ensured a Hearts victory over St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park.

Collin Samuel squandered a chance for the home side before the break.

But Hearts broke the deadlock after 64 minutes, with Kevin Kyle firing home after a David Templeton free-kick struck a hand inside the box.

Stevenson made sure of the points when he latched on to a fine through ball from Calum Elliot to score despite hints of offside.

Victory lifts Hearts into third spot in the SPL, with the Perth side's continued slump (having lost 15 goals in 5 games) leaving them third from bottom.
