It's the news we've all been waiting for - Everton have released young defender Anthony Gerrard.

 

Gerrard played 8 games while on loan to the Saddlers, impressing our readers so much so that they named him as their young player of the season for 2004-2005

The Saddlers have already offered him a contract, so Gerrard knows what's on the table. It's now just a matter of who else shows an interest. Stoke and Tranmere are said to be keen, and the news of his release will only generate more interest from other clubs. 

Gerrard is one of our 3 big summer transfer targets, the others being Julian Joachim and Andrew Surman. If there is one thing we've learnt in recent summers it's that we can't hang around waiting for one player, so Paul Merson must be wanting a decision from Gerrard as soon as possible.
