It's the end of Novemeber and we're already out of every cup compeition going. Oh well, at least we can concentrate on the league...
Paul Merson's team were knocked out the LDV Vans trophy last night; this time it was Leyton Orient's turn to knock us out of a cup competition. Merson had been full of confidence before the game - "I think the lads will go on to win a few more away games - or a lot more. We have just got to get a roll going." But Orient dominated the tie and forced the only goal of the game through a Mark Wright own goal.
Orient have been having a decent season in League Two, but this result is a blow, coming just a couple of days after Merson's team picked up their first away win of the season at Stockport. It's 'only' the LDV Vans trophy, but the performance sounded shocking and against three Fourth Division - sorry, League Two - opponents in this year's competition, we've won 1, drawn 1 and lost 1.
Anyway, our team was: Murphy; Wright, Emblen, Bennett, Aranalde; Osborn, Standing, Kinsella (Daryl Taylor 65), Wrack; Leitao, Birch (Fryatt 76). Subs not used: Paston, Dann, Broad.
And just under 1,500 people turned up to watch.
