Walsall boss Paul Merson today signed New Zealand international keeper Mark Paston. Paston, 27, joins after his release from debt ridden Bradford. He has been a long term target of Merson, who completed his second swoop on Valley Parade after netting midfielder Michael Standing last month. Standing stands at a massive 6"5 - much different to the diminutive Jimmy Walker, who left Bescot for West Ham yesterday after ten years as a Saddler.
Paston is currently with New Zealand who have World Cup Qualifiers. Former Saddlers physio Kevin O'Leary, who now works with the Kiwis said "Our coach rates him highly. And with regular first-team experience he will get better."
Paston made 14 appearances in his one year at Bradford.
