BONSER - YOUTH IS THE FUTURE

WALSALL OWNER JEFF BONSER HAS BEEN SPEAKING ABOUT WHAT HE WANTS FROM THE NEXT WALSALL MANAGER.  

Bonser has told the IC Birmingham Network " "The fans want to see local kids in the team and the Manager of this club next season must be committed to a youth policy."

Bonser also added that the Club will "sink or swim" with regards to it's youth policy.

As it stands at this moment in time there are only two former Youth players who like they could make the grade in the First Team. Those players are Matty Fryatt (an exceptional talent) and Mark Wright (who has been a "Professional" for nearly 4 years.) 

The likes of Nathan Jamerson, Daryl Taylor, Gavin Caines and Julian Bennett have become Reserve Team regulars. But would they make the grade in the First Team? We have had a series of successful Youth Teams.  Yet how many first team regulars have they produced? 

The last batch of first teamers we produced came through under Nicholl and Sorenson. Keates, Thomas, Ricketts and Roper all went on to play important First Team roles. 

Since then the likes of Alfie Carter, Dion Scott (and so many more) have been rated highly, but failed to make the grade and found themselves playing non-league football. 

It will be interesting to see how the new Manager handles what Bonser expects. If the quality isn't there - He can't be expected to play it.
