WHY PETE WON'T INVEST 

THE BUDGET, LEADERSHIP AND MONEY ARE NEVER TO FAR AWAY FROM ANY SADDLERS DISCUSSION. GIVEN RECENT EVENTS, IT WAS INTERESTING TO READ AN ARTICLE ABOUT PETE WATERMAN...

It's not everyday that a popular publication like  4-4-2 produces a Saddlers related article.  

The May 2004 issue contains an interview conducted by journalist Tim Barnett. 

Barnett and Waterman covered all the bases you would expect them to.  Then Barnett popped the question every Saddler would like to ask...

"Why don't you put you money where your mouth is?"

Pete's reply was...  "I have a season ticket and I take the odd match sponsorship, but I  wouldn't want to invest in Walsall. In fact, I wouldn't want to invest in football full stop.  

"Honestly, nobody loves football more than me, but i cant see how a club the size of Coventry for example can get themselves in £30m in debt"

"I don't want to sit in the stands at Bescot and have the fans shouting at me: "Hey you big fat b******, get your cheque book out. B****cks to that."

We all know he doesn't want to get involved, but he is a rich fan who could bank roll us to succsess. Media reports suggest that he is worth anything between £40-50m . At the end of the day Pete is a fan like all of us. It's unfair of any fan to ask him to bankroll us to succsess. A Football Club takes time and effort. Waterman has 4 main interests outside of Football.

We did have one brief encounter with a very rich owner. That man was Terry Ramsden, and things didn't turn out to well, but what kind of fan doesn't dream about a Jack Haywood or Dave Whealen bankrolling the club to success? 

We can still dream, but must remember that our current Board have delivered financial stability and  1st Division Football. You could call their ways tough love, but many of us appreciate the effort.
