While conducting research for the Foreign Legion feature we got in touch with former Saddler Siggi Eyjolfsson who is currently playing for Icelandic champions Kr Reykjavik.

Siggi is not just playing football, he has been appointed as the Icelandic FA's Technical Director, a position of some responsibility. It's not surprising to see Siggi taking up such an important role because he excelled academically while playing Soccer for the University of North Carolina.  

Siggi was adored by the Walsall fans and will always be remembered for his goal in the 3-1 win over Oldham on the last day of the 98-99season.  It was an emotional day for fans and players alike as the Saddlers won promotion to the First Division. 

After failing to get regular 1st team football with the Saddlers he went on loan to Chester before joining  Belgian club Harelbeke. His team mates at Reykjavík now include Bjarki Gunnlaugsson (ex Preston) and Arnar Gunnlaugsson (ex Bolton and Leicester).

Siggi says both  he and fellow Icelander Bjarni Larusson (now of IBV) keep track of Walsall, and hope they stay clear of relegation this season.

I'm sure all Saddlers fans would like to wish Siggi all the best with KR Reykjavik, and good luck in his job with Icelandic FA.
