Florent Laville will be out for up to sixth months after rupturing cruciate ligaments in his left knee. This has left Allardyce with only one fit centre back so Emerson Thome will not be risked. The Bolton boss also looks set to rest several key players.

Zigor Aranalde is back after a three match ban but Ian Roper (groin), Pedro Matias and Mark Wright (ankle) and Darren Wrack (calf) are all doubtful. Danny Hay should recover from his ankle injury in time but skipper Paul Merson (also ankle) is touch and go. Deon Burton has been given permission to play by Pompey boss Harry Redknapp.

One's to Watch.

Steve Corica began this season with a stunning volley in our 4-1 victory over West Brom. We all know he has talent but the diminutive Aussie has lacked consisitency whilst at Bescot. On Saturday, Corica led from the front, putting Deon Burton through with a great ball and then confidently firing home the penalty when Burton was fouled. An on-form Corica would be crucial against the side from the Premiership.

Bolton

A side containing creative talents such as Okoacha and Djorkaeff needs a ball winner in the middle of the park, the type that sometimes goes unnoticed but is sometimes more important than the creative talents. In Ivan Campo, Bolton have just that; for all the 'mercenary' jibes levelled at the Spaniard, anyone who has played for Real Madrid oozes quality and the Saddlers will have to watch Campo closely if he plays against us.

The Verdict

If Sam Allardyce decides to field any of Okocha, Djorkaeff or Jardel, then the Saddlers could be in for a struggle. Injury worries are mounting up at Bescot and Lee's men are struggling in the League, however the Cup will provide a brief respite and the Saddlers could just pull off a shock - especially if Bolton do 'rest several key players' as expected..
