The Legends XI Squad is starting to take shape, and now it is time to elect the Wingers / Wide Midfielders. Peron or Naughton? Morris or Haughton? you decide.

In the interests of playing 4 4 2, we have decided on picking 4 wingers for the squad.

You have to choose who from this list are the best wingers we have ever had....

The wingers currently in it are...

Miah Dennehy (RM) - A traditional right winger. An Irish International who played at Fellows Park for three seasons. Tricky and pacy, he had a good eye for goal.

Colin Taylor (LM) - Renowned for a powerful shot, had three different spells with Walsall between 1958 and 1973. One of only three players to have made over 500 appearances, with almost 200 goals, an incredible record for a winger.

Jeff Peron (MR/L) Spent one season at Walsall, where he won player of the season and gave some of the best performances ever seen in a Saddlers shirt. In the opinion of many (including the author!), one of the most skilful players to wear the shirt.

Johnny Hancocks (LM) - Represented Walsall 39 times between 1938-46 (War years). Like Colin Taylor, was left footed, with a ferocious shot. Went on to represent England when he played for Wolves, where he made 378 appearances, with 168 goals.

And the nominees are...

Brian Taylor (D/MR). Signed from Coventry, a tricky, pacy right winger, with the ability to score goals as well. Also played at full back successfully. Sadly died young, in his forties.

Darren Wrack. (D/M R/C/L). Needs no introduction to Saddlers fas, has managed to hold down a place in the team during the most successful period in our history.

The Fans nominate...

Scott Houghton. (LM). Another firm favourite with the crowd during his time at Bescot. A skilful and tricky left winger with an eye for goal.

John Hodge (M R/L). Could create from nothing, with superb crossing ability. A good eye for goal, as well!

Geoff Morris (M L/C). Came up through the ranks to be a vital member of the team. Fast and skilful.

Alan Birch (M L/C). Another product of the youth ranks, could destroy teams on his day. Went on to have a successful career around the lower leagues.

Willie Naughton (ML). Acquired from Preston, a Scottish born left winger who had the ability to destroy teams on his own, when on song.

Mark Rees. (D/M R). A legend in his own lifetime, hardly the most skilful player in the club’s history, but very, very fast and always willing to give everything.

Gary Childs (M R/L/C). Came to us from the Albion, to become one of the mainstays of the side during the 80's. Very skilful. Could also score spectacular goals
