Do they care ? 

 

Manchester United Chief Executive Peter Kenyon has spoken about the possibility of live games being shown at 3pm on a Saturday afternoons.

Kenyon said :

"In this ever-changing world, it is an area which has to be looked at and is one of the issues that will be addressed in negotiations for the next television deal."

At this moment in time, their is a "black out period" that operates in France, Italy Germany and Spain preventing live games from being shown at times when run of the mill fixtures are taking place.

If the black out is removed then it could cause a whole host of new problems for Nationwide League Clubs. 

Kids already see enough of Man United, Arsenal and Liverpool on the television. So much so that they  now adopt these enterprises as their teams. If Saturday afternoon football is shown live on British television, then those Kids who usually end up noticing that they have no chance of watching United and end up watching their local side will become even more scarce.

You can just see it now, a whole generation of English Football fans who have no desire to leave the comfort of their armchair. The Saddlers know all about floating fans, those people who come along when their is a good deal, a big game or a boring day.  If you were a floating fan, would you rather watch Newcastle Vs Arsenal or Walsall Vs Grimsby on a Saturday afternoon? If you were a Carlisle fan who picks and chooses his away games,  what would you do on a Saturday afternoon if their was a good Premiership game on the TV ?

The Nationwide League is already on it's knees thanks to 1 TV deal, and now it seems that  football is going to try and go one step further and finish these teams off all together.
