Saddlers track Premier League Huckerby

Colin Lee has enquired about the possibility of taking Darren Huckerby on loan from Manchester City until the end of the season. This provides further proof of the clubs ambition, and the pending sale of Michael Ricketts could well make this a reality. New Page 1

Manchester City The Express and Star is reporting that Colin Lee has been in touch with Manchester City over taking Huckerby t on loan  until the end of the season.
As it stands at this moment in time  Robbie Fowler, Nicolas Anelka, Jon Macken and Shaun Goater  are all ahead of him in the pecking order. His long term future does not look all that promising either, with Wanchope likely to jump ahead of him in the que when he returns from injury. He is 26 years old, and is supposed to have the best years of his football career ahead of him, and lets just hope that the Saddlers can snare a player of his ability.
Would wages be a problem? Its hard to tell, but with Ricketts being sold for a fee of approximately £4 Million pounds fans are expecting a windfall. The  rumours say that we are entitled to anything between 10-30% of the fee. This  means that anything between £300,000 and £1m could be coming the Saddlers way, easily enough money to take a Premier League Striker on loan until May.

Huckerby has been at City since the Christmas of 2000, when they paid £2.5m to take him from Leeds United who had previously splashed out £4.5m to buy him from Coventry City.  Strachan paid just £1m to take him from Newcastle United, and his sensational form in 1998 led to calls for him to be included in the France 98 squad. 
Leeds United It appeared that Huckerby had rediscovered the form that persuaded Leeds United to pay £4.5m for him when Manchester City won promotion, and he scored 25 goals. Since City have been back up, he has slowly fell down the pecking order and a loan move could well rejuvenate his career.
No one is suggesting that Huckerby has a long term future at a club like Walsall, but we could provide him with the perfect platform to show everyone at Man City, and around the country what he is capable off. The Midlands is his home, and Lee obviously feels that Huckerby is a player who would come to Bescot and do a job.
