Walsall Football club have today announced what every fan was hoping for (other than Ruud Van Nistelrooy). Bescot Stadium is getting a new pitch. Colin Lee has been complaining for a while that the state of the playing surface was affecting Walsall's chances of mid table oscurity this season, even to the point of him having to not play the team's most creative midfielder, Steve Corica.

The Walsall Board have decided to act, following studies on the state of the playing surface, nad have arranged for the pitch and base to be ripped up starting Sunday, following the Wimbledon FA Cup tie.

The new base and pitch will be laid, starting Tuesday and will be finished by Thursady night, ready for Walsall's next home league game against Brighton.

The firm granted the contract are Kestrel Golf and Sports, from Hampshire, who recently relaid the Chelsea pitch and did a similar job at Fulham not long ago.
