The visit of Richmond to the BPA on Saturday is our final game before Christmas, and our final home match of 2022. First of all, the little team  who keep this Coventry Supporters' forum running would like to wish not only the supporters, but also the staff and players of the club a Merry Christmas, and a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year.

When we looked forward to this season last summer, it was with quite a degree of concern from many supporters, including myself. The pandemic, although diminishing still continued, as it does now, and still had an impact on the economics of the game; the squad had shrunk in numbers, bulk, and experience; and the coaching team was still in a period of transition, especially when recruitment was taking place. It was not an optimistic time at and around the BPA.

Add to this the concerns about English rugby in general. It was no secret that Wasps were not achieving the crowds they needed to support their debts. It was rumoured that another Premiership team (or teams?) were in trouble. The England team was misfiring, and the RFU, the Premiership, and the Championship seemed more like a dysfunctional family than a successful partnership.

So, as we approach Christmas what has changed?

Fundamentally very little, but what has largely seems to be the things that the club itself can control. The team is performing better than was generally predicted. Third place, as I hope we shall be at over  Christmas, is not to be sneezed at. Congratulations should go to Alex Rae, his team, and the playing squad for that.

Jon Sharp and all club management and staff should be thanked for the massive effort they have put in, in this difficult time.

Thanks Nick, Kimbo and all who have contributed to keep it all going.
As you say Nick it has been quite a surprise at how well the season has been so far. Like yourself, I also had concerns pre-season. It feels good to say that those fears have, so far, been unrealised. Long may that continue. The two Championship defeats , pre-Hartpury, were to the current top two.
Last week was a disappointing loss. As Alex said in the Rugby Paper , " I am disappointed to score six tries away from home and not come away with the win." Spot-on I think.
But we go again on Saturday.
Merry Christmas to you all and hopefully two more wins to close out the year.
I would take that.

Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all Cov fans players and staff. Thank you once again for keeping this site going as i have said many times before a real lifeline for many people like me who prefer this option for our COV news. A tough run of fixtures coming up we will need to get behind the team more than ever. A win at Notts would be a fantastic start. Cheers Colin.
