Cov ran in eight tries to Newport' s six, to run out winners by 56 points to 40.
The open rugby promised by Roland Winter was in full display at the BPA today, with tries from Dan Rundle, Rob Knox, Max Trimble, Eoghan Grace and Sam Grasso in the first half, followed by another quick burst of scores from Darrell Dyer, Olly Povoas and Corey Hircock in the second period.
It was far from one-way traffic though, with Newport also grabbing three tries in each half, suggesting that there might still be a bit to do in the defensive drills before the season starts in earnest.
As well as spinning the ball around freely, the forwards put in another big shift against the Newport pack - something that bodes well for those colder, wetter days at the BPA. For now though, this is the kind of score that should get the fans through the gate. Great work, Cov!
