Coventry slumped to their fourth home defeat of an increasingly disappointing National League One campaign with a lacklustre display against a more streetwise Blackheath side.

Leading 16-5 at half-time, Cov had plenty of possession in a game punctuated by 30 penalties but failed to make it count against a well-organised Blackheath defence.

The visitors made much better use of a stiff wind to get themselves back into the game, and Cov's discipline slipped in the final quarter as Freddy Gabbitass kicked Blackheath into a winning position.

Playing with the elements, Cov took an early lead through a Matt Jones penalty, but Blackheath hit straight back with an unconverted try by Hamish Graham on five minutes.

Blackheath were under increasing pressure in the scrum, and Cov finally took advantage on 20 minutes with a second Jones penalty before converting a penalty try in a five-minute spell which saw the visitors go down to 13 men with yellow cards for forwards Anders Nilsson and Will Stuart.

Cov were unable to add to their score before Blackheath went back up to strength, but Jones finished the half with a stoppage time penalty for a 16-5 lead.
