Sam Baker makes his Coventry debut in tomorrow’s home game against Hartpury College with the club’s injury list now stretching into double figures.

The former Cinderford winger, who ironically suffered a serious injury in Cinderford’s game at the Butts Park Arena last season, came to Cov on trial towards the end of pre-season and gets his chance with Scott Hamilton ruled out after pulling a hamstring in the closing minutes of last week’s win at Loughborough Students.

And there is a seasonal debut for Loti Molitika at No.8 in place of Tom Preece, who went off early in the second half at Loughborough and is awaiting a scan to assess the full extent of a knee injury.

The rest of the side is the same as in the 48-12 win, which left Cov on maximum points from their two games, along with an unchanged replacements bench.

Rugby director Phil Maynard concedes that the strength of the squad is already being squarely tested after just two games with Cov sitting on top of the National League One table.

“It’s an indication of the modern game, the physicality and the fierceness of the competition,” he said.

“I think we have been unlucky to pick up so many injuries so soon, but it is something all sides will experience at some stage and we just have to cope with it.

“We still have a strong side, I would say stronger than we were able to put out for a lot of last season, and hopefully it shows the wisdom of keeping the majority of the group together.”

Hartpury, who won last season’s corresponding fixture 22-20, lost their opening game at Hull Ionians but bounced back to beat Fylde 39-12 last week.
