Week 10 - Results Saturday 8^th November 2014.

Whether it was the torrential downpours either before or during matches that restricted scores to the only one try bonus scored by Rosslyn Park at Macclesfield, with all other ties ending so close that the defeated all received losing bonus points, or a sign that there is an evening out of quality amongst NL1 sides will become more apparent over the next few weeks.

Players who had the necessary water ski or aquaplaning abilities came into their own in the majority of games. 

It was almost but not quite as leaders Ealing Tfs almost came unstuck at Darlington MP , as they came from behind at half-time to almost snatch a draw. The much vaunted Ealing pack gave the backs plenty of possession in the first half, but credit to the home side as a reversal of pack power gave them the second half, but despite plenty of possession were unable to complete the win. Yet it was another try bonus point that Ealing missed out on allowing Rosslyn Park to close the gap to 3 points.

Rosslyn Park took full advantage with the only bonus point win of the day in beating winless and pointless Macclesfield. It took Park until the second half to take control helped by 2 yellow cards for the home side, as they finally ran away with it and maintained even closer contact with the leaders Ealing.

Was it really a surprise that Fylde were unable to win at Tynedale? Their record at Corbridge is not very successful and so it was again as the home side boosted by the return of captain and winger Jack Harrison as well as the 4 Falcons players including the impressive full-back Simon Hammersley belied their recent form as they held on for a deserved victory. A loss that although keeping Fylde in 3^rd place means that Coventry Rugby are now only 2 points behind them.

If Fylde had problems well so did Coventry Rugby on their first ever visit to Hartpury College. College had done their homework well with an immense defensive display in the first half as Coventry tried to play an expansive game in poor conditions. Two breakaway tries gave the home side the lead, further increased early in the second half. Then Coventry turned the screw, changed tactics, the pressure finally told with two tries by Rob Knox and MOM Chad Thorne and another penalty before a late injury time penalty by Matt Jones sealed it. Once again in adversity this Coventry side were never going to give up. The sixth win in succession brings Coventry Rugby within 2 points of third placed Fylde.

Richmond had a close win over Loughborough Students as the home side maintained 5^th place. The Students took the lead with a few minutes to go yet another side never to give up saw Richmond poach an injury time try with Rob Kirby earning the plaudits for the winning conversion.

It was a grim affair after the showers as relegation candidates Cinderford and Old Albanian met. A scoreless second half summed up the game as Cinderford were unable to take the win, which means that both sides exchange places in 14th and 15th place but both sides are still in serious trouble in the league.

Esher ended a losing run but had to come from behind to defeat a plucky Blackheath side. Seemingly too far behind after a late home try, Blackheath managed two even later tries of their own to gain them a losing bonus point. Both sides are now equal on 29 points in 6^th and 7^th place.

The final game sees a welcome win for Wharfedale this time over northern rivals Blaydon. Despite Wharfedale having plenty of possession it was the visitors who stormed into a lead until late yellow card and penalty let Dale back into it. The scene was then set for the winning try by No 8 Josh Burridge, which moves Wharfedale up to 10^th place one place ahead of Blaydon.

Not to picky, but you talk about Ealing drawing, but according to the results they won?

I read it as DM almost snatching a draw after coming from behind to ETF ?
