Aviva Premiership rivals Leicester Tigers express concern...

Northampton, Leicester and Worcester have all cast doubt over the suitability of Wasps playing at the Ricoh Arena.
Wasps' Aviva Premiership rivals have questioned the decision making behind the Black and Gold's controversial move to Coventry.
The view among the current midlands clubs is that they will struggle to attract support to the 32,000 seater stadium despite the hierarchy at the club seeking to put a positive spin on the move yesterday.
Leciester director of rugby Richard Cokerill, who himself is a Cov Kid, has described the move to his hometown as 'odd'.
"Wasps is an odd one," he said. "They will now travel 100 miles for their home games. I am not really sure how that is going to work. I am from Coventry so it's like going home for me.
"It will be another game down the M69 instead of going to Wycombe, so that is perfect. I will be intrigued as to how it works.
"My in-laws live near where Wasps play at the minute and I drive down there to see them. It takes me an hour and 40 minutes on a good day. Their supporters will have to make the same trip now.
"If Leicester Tigers moved to, say, Milton Keynes, would we get 22,000 every week? They must have done some research but it is a hard demographic to sell to.

Three defeats on the trot and a shed load of points conceded. Very concerning indeed. Wasps to sting tigers. Titter ye not.

And Cokerill (sic) is from Cov? A Cov Kid?? Funny that. I used to see the little **** running around Leamington Hastings/Hill as a kid - and being called 'cocky' by most of the locals (and that had nothing to do with his name). He may have played for Cov in the last century, but he's as 'Rugby' as I am.

what wuss have is a yo yo in a very nice ground with excellent transport links with a junior rugby club attached to the surrounding fields

Remember the relegation. A defeat at home to Orrell on the last day sent them down. Orrell had nothing to play for but Cov's game was a catalogue of errors that day.
No Zinny, Degsy came much later, maybe '94/'95.
As for the actual coach, I can only guess at the late Tony Hunt? Wild guess really as I sort of lost touch a bit from '87 with the birth of my second daughter. It all became a bit too expensive and time-consuming having to travel from near Le*****er (where we were at the time) for some reason! Didn't become a regular again until about the time Eves came along and I started taking both Lucie and Emma with me.
That's my excuse anyway

It was actually 1987/88 and we were relegated with Sale, 1 point behind Waterloo P11 W3 D1 L7 139 246 21 Points

I wasn't being funny, just that I remember clearly it being 1987/1988 as my club (Coventrians RFC) won their league that first season!
I think the penny's dropped finally! John meant formed in 86/87 and then top flight first season 87/88 ... It was a long and arduous VP's reunion at Covents yesterday - a lot of brain cells were used up

As I remember there was a story in the press at the time roughly as follows.
In the first season of league rugby, teams only played each other once and there were still many traditional friendly fixtures played between clubs in different divisions.
Prior to the first league season Cov wrote to Orrell to say that if Orrell were relegated Cov would be unable to offer them a friendly fixture the following year. Orrell were never in danger of relegations, but didn't forget the slight. On the final day of the season with Cov needing a win to avoid relegation, Orrell pinned the offending letter on the door of their dressing room to motivate the team.
It may not be true of course - after all I read it in a newspaper a long time ago. But somehow it has the ring of truth.
I went to the Bristol game 23/4/88 Cov won 25-3 and I remember Gully going toe to toe with one of their blokes right in front of the Cow Shed - the play was way up towards Carbodies as I recall

I see it as similar to a conversation that one might have at work, in the ground or at the pub - you know the one, it starts with a subject but then, as you warm to it, it runs from one thing into another but usually somewhere within the boundaries of the original theme. Whilst participating in said verbal discourse it's very rare for one party to say "oi, stay on the original topic, you're rambling you boring old fart!"
