Coventry Rugby are pleased to confirm that three new signings, all prop forwards have signed for the club for the coming season making 6 new arrivals so far together with the 21 players already reported as being retained, with Henry Sandys, Rikki Stout and Joe Foreman taking the place of the departed Ignas Darkintis and Tim Ryan.

Henry Sandys aged 24 is mainly a tight-head but can play loose-head, joins from newly promoted and NL2 North runners up Darlington Mowden Park. Standing at 6ft 1in and weighing 19st Henry added much needed power to the Darlington MP pack which won the playoff to join Coventry in the coming season. Henry also attended and played for Hartpury College between 2010/13 , the same as his new Coventry team-mate Chad Thorne, as well as being a member of the Gloucester Academy and playing a number of games for the Gloucester ‘A ‘side .

Rikki Stout aged 24 is a tight-head joins from Championship side Rotherham Titans. College and University saw Rikki play for Cardiff and then onto Cinderford before going onto Rotherham. Spells on loan followed at Macclesfield and for most of last season at Hull Ionians where he played 17 times helping to shore up a pack in the side that was ultimately relegated.

Joe Foreman Coventry based joins from the Bedford Academy, has appeared before at the Butts Park Arena being a guest player for the Coventry Nighthawks side against Stourbridge. A promising young prop usually playing at No 3, it is now time for Joe to play at a higher level.

working on it Jean but negotiations are still continuing on a number of fronts with hopefully some more definitive news next week or so which will allow a full positional list to be issued as was done last season.

Please check the "sticky" on the Coventry squad at the top of the message board. Compiled by OLD NICK. He does not put anything on their till it has been official announced by the club. Hope this helps.

I was hoping to get some signings from a higher level to be honest... All of these young ones are great but have little experience where Coventry are hoping to be competitive - hopefully near the top of the league!!

There are signings from Rotherham's strong squad so those players should not be written off as if they are not increasing the quality/experience in the squad.

I believe that is what the Rotherham reference is about.

Exactly.

Rikki Stout is an experienced player, aged about 25-26 from Rotherham, a team noted for having a good pack. He's also played for Cinderford and Macclesfield - teams also not usually poor in that area, even if they're not teams Covventry would wish to emulate in other areas. OK, he spent most of last season loaned out by Rotherham to Hull, so he's not been setting the world on fire, but his pedigree would suggest a useful tight head.

My comment about 'writing them off' had nothing to do with Rotherham, and everything to do with a comment expressing disappointment in the level of players being recruited.

It was saying don't write off these players before we have seen them play.

Sometimes, a good player can look quite ordinary in a struggling team. Obviously, Hull Ionians had a very poor season, but I am sure Rikki will thrive on having better quality players around him while at Cov. You only have to look at the current football World Cup. Christiano Ronaldo looked at best average in a very poor Portugal side against Germany, but he was outstanding all season in a superb Real Madrid side. I wish all the new signings every success for next season at Cov.

In general props that leave Rotherham are off to pastures green at a higher level , I watched Ricky earlier in the season in the B&i cup and he got ripped apart by a young gun from Bristol who plays at Clifton !
