Coventry Rugby are pleased to confirm that the current number of players retained from the season just ended has risen to 11, with lock Roan Van Heerden and full-back Barry Davies signing on again for the next season and confirmation that centre Rob Knox earlier in the season signed a two year contract.

Roan Van Heerden aged 29, alock forward arrived from South Africa in February this year joining Coventry Rugby whilst attending University. With experience both in 7’s and playing for the Leopards Roan has much enjoyed his spell at Coventry Rugby, and when the opportunity arrived to stay here to complete his Masters degree he was happy to stay on with Coventry Rugby for the new season. Already a firm favourite with the Coventry crowd for his speed around the field and line out work he has been an ever present since joining making 9 consecutive starts. His experience complements the existing lock forwards giving Coventry Rugby strength in depth in this crucial role.

Barry Davies, full-back, centre and former Welsh International is aged 32 has signed on for another year. Barry brings a great deal of experience to the side acting as a mentor for the younger squad members.This season he made 19 appearances including 3 as replacement scoring 6 tries as well as kicking 2 conversions and 2 long range penalties.

Rob Knox, aged 21,a 6ft 3in and 17 stone centre joined Coventry Rugby in December from local side Barkers Butts. Also able to play full-back Rob is a hard running player and so far has made 8 starting appearances scoring 4 tries, including an impressive hat-trick against Hull Ionians in his last game. His hard running, strength and mazy running makes him a difficult player to defend against and will only get better as he gets more used to this standard of play.

More good news, especially having Roan for another season. What a tremendous debut he had for Cov, against Worthing I think. Great in the lineout, quick around the field and of course , that chase and tackle on the Worthing winger/centre who had a fifteen yard start. Probably my favourite moment of the season. Great to have him on board next season as well as Rob Knox and Barry Davies.

agreed Nigel, last season we retained 18 players and this season it is expected to be more .This does allow much more certainty and not having to bed in too many new players.

Was just about to post the same thing about that chase and tackle, it was the only time that my mate and I were speechless all season!
