The Coventry Rugby side to face Worthing Raiders, here at the Butts Park Arena, this coming Saturday 15th February 2014 with kick off at 3 pm has just been announced.

It shows 7 changes, together with two positional ones from the side that started against Blackheath last week. At prop forward Ignas Darkintis comes in for the injured Chad Thorne. There are recalls after injury and illness for Barry Davies at full-back in place of Mark Kohler, who reverts to his normal position on the wing and Luke Myring at centre, who comes in for Greg Evans. Also at centre Callum MacBurnie comes in for James Otutaha. Pierre Ferre after a lively display at Blackheath comes in for Louis Silver who exchanges places with him on the bench. It is all change at lock with a first game for new signing South African Roan Van Heerden, in place of Tom Poole and Head Coach Scott Morgan replaces Sam Pailor in the other lock position, as Sam reverts to his more usual position of flanker.

The final change in the pack sees a return for Jacques le Roux in place of Matt Tibbatts at No 8 with the captain’s armband going to Cliffie Hodgson.

Kneejerk again

The backs give up 3 soft tries so we change the pack.
I'm beginning to wonder what on earth the selectors thought process's are.

Still, given that Worthing are one of the poorest away sides in the league, then those selected should have a relatively easy win - or will they?

On a more serious note.. I am increasingly concerned about the selection process.
It seems we really don't know the best combinations, and are just pulling players in and out in the random hope that one may actually work, whilst sometimes avoiding the obvious ones..
Like mcburnie and outhata in the centre, when played together they looked solid.
Knox in from nowhere, then out, then back in, then wing, then fullback, the out again!
Maisey in, out, back in for 1 game, then out again.
The back row is another one where players have been played, made captain, dropped, played, dropped, played, then new players brought in, etc, etc.
I appreciate the coaches are dammed if they do, and dammed if they don't, but there is a limit.

I'm sorry to say I'm not feeling confident in the logic of our selections right now.
I will support whatever team is put out there, but I'm not sure some players are being given a fair crack of the whip.

However good to see Pierre, and callum being given a starts, and Barry back in the team.

Very hard to comment on selection when we have no idea who is injured (Apart from Chad) / unavailable.

Just hope the game survives the weather.

Good to see the Club advertising Lunch packages on Worthing website - well done to all concerned. (Provided the Worthing supporters don't make too much noise that is!)

like my brother says selection of different players is fine, but this season must set a record for the most changed first 15 in the clubs history.Even beating the period when there were nearly 70 players used during the season.
Because its now got to the stage where people are being dropped for one thing then being brought back because the replacement was not adequate.We are not solving the problem of the style of play has dramatically changed from the first couple of months of the season.The fact that the players seemed to enjoy how they were playing as well.So how much is it down to the coaches and how much to the players

strange that poole has been replaced, imo on eo fth emore considten tperformers. 2nd row looks risky when they are going to have to carry ball and maul for long periods.
glad to see davies back but outaha ha ssurely go tto start in these conditions.

3 of the best players in the squad start on the bench? IMHO Locke and Wright have been two of the most consistent performers this season. Looking forward to seeing new 2nd row however

It's an interesting risk to take, having 2 non match fit locks starting the game with only 1 lock/back row replacement on the bench. This means one of the locks will have to play a full game, which I personally think will show in terms of fitness in the last quarter.
Surely a more prudent approach would to have started with either Morgan or van heerden? I agree perhaps with resting Poole, but not by bringing both these 2 in at the same time for the same game. Seems unnecessary to me.

Which is more risky - resting one lock and trying out one whose recent game time has been very limited, in a match which for Cov is effectively a dead rubber, or playing a consistent performer into the ground, and signing for next season an unknown quantity whose recent game time has been very limited?

I'd say my risk is more risky..
The reason being, as I understand it(although I could be wrong) is the SA lock is just with us
Until the end of the season, in order to regain his fitness, and to help us out in the short term. I didnt realise there was potential for him to maybe be signed for next season.
So actually neither Morgan or van heerden would be playing last season either way.
But that's just the word on the street! :-)
