Coventry Rugby side announced to face Wharfedale on Saturday

The Coventry Rugby side to face Wharfedale at home at the Butts Park Arena this Saturday 1st February 2014, kick off 3 pm has just been announced.
It contains 7 changes, plus 2 positional ones, from the side that lost against Old Albanian. In the centres Greg Evans is recalled from loan at Nuneaton to replace Cliffie Hodgson who starts at fly-half in place of Matt Jones who goes onto the bench. At full-back Rob Knox comes in for the unavailable Luke Myring.
There are 5 changes in the pack with Matt Tibbatts replacing Jacques le Roux, Brett Daynes starting in place of Sam Pailor who switches to lock in place of Danny Wright, whilst Danny goes onto the bench. At hooker Matt Price exchanges places with Chris Locke who replaces him on the bench, Chad Thorne replacing Ignas Darkintis, and Tim Ryan coming onto the replacements.
At No 7 there is a start for new recruit Bath Academy player Max Northcote Green in place of Liam Munro. Max joined Bath Academy at the start of this season after a year out playing for Sydney University Colts in Australia. Aged 19, Max a product of Millfield School was also a player in the Bath side in the JP Morgan 7’s at the start of the season.

Thats a hell of a lot of changes, i do approve of Greg Evans coming back in and Cliffie moving back to Fly Half, not sure about Knox at full back, has he played there before? guess time will tell.I know that something has to be done but not keen on making so many changes each game. I wonder if Davis is injured?
Knox'y is a fullback,great to see Greg playing in his preferred role, whats up with Liam ?
Todays Telegraph reports that Scott Morgan ripped into the players after the Old Albanian game. Well it certainly looks like one or two bolloc, er sorry, telling offs have been dished out.
Ok .. So more than 2 words... Some thoughts running through my head...
1) the changes could either be a stroke of genius, or desperation of not knowing what to do?
2) great too see Greg back.
3) great to see James O back (shouldn't have been dropped in the first place)
4) cliffe was moved from flyhalf for a reason, so I'm not convinced the move will bring anything new to the party.
5)An untried 19yo back rower coming straight into the team from nowhere, being selected above at least 2 others, including the club captain, very risky.
6) Knox coming to the club and being asked to step up several leagues, playing out of position, either now at full back or originally at centre. This seems odd when we've had Evans and mcburnie waiting in the wings.
7) it seems that one of the few positions that is never changed is scrum half, which seems a bit odd, as this is a position which can seriously influence a game.
Well I admire Scott for actually doing something and taking the bull by the horns, so there's a lot to be said for that. But some of the selections over the last few games have been a bit odd, and possibly inconsistent, I just hope they pay of this time around and we start winning again.

You more or less summed everything up i was thinking Nige, as for scrum half the French lad is on the bench, i dare say Scott needs to have a look at him at this level.

Agreed on the SH., If he is the only other SH option within the club, then The last thing we want is a young, untried SH to have to step in, after never starting a game and having not played a minute for the first team. If silver gets injured presumably he would have to be played.
So its a good idea to have him on the bench with a view to give him some game time, just incase silver does get injured. Shame we don't have other real options though!!

Scott is hoping changes can bring change, Lets see if they can.... but as the song says "turn and face the strain...
Maybe "no retreat, no surrender" would be more apt rather than the capitulation in the last few games.

Regarding the situation with our scrum halfs, it makes it even more frustrating all these Nighthawks games being cancelled for whatever reason. These games would be ideal to try new blood

it's hardly surprising following poor performances, that the coach wants to shake things up a bit.
Times do seem tougher at the moment Covkid after the rather good first half of the season. Yes, our form since November has been patchy and we seem to have lost momentum and confidence, yet we have only lost two matches on the trot.
We all have our opinions about team selection and rightly so, but we are not party to what goes on at Cov. Strong words from Scott Morgan in the Telegraph today, which might explain some of the selections this week.
We can @#$%& and moan, but this Saturday let's make some noise and get fully behind Cov and become that "16th man".

Nice to see Tibbo back, no one could ever question his passion for Cov. Interesting selection, I like Scott's passion and fire, even though I still would have picked Munro and Le Roux, but as always....C'MON COV!
I'm seeing something totally different about this selection. It's not about Wharfedale, it's about who to keep, where to play them, and who to release for next season.
Take Cluffie at 10. He won't set the world on fire there, but equally he won't let the team down, he'll kick points and he's scoring points, so he won't be dropped - but while he's at 10 Greg Evans can be tested under NL1 pressure and Rob Knox can be tried out at 15 while Barry Daviesis injured.
Similarly in the back row. Jacques is a known quantity, and our weakness is at 7. Liam on his own isn't enough for next season, and Nash has disappointed. So, let's give a DR player a trial now, and at the same time give Pailor a go at lock to see if he can cope there for next season.
I wouldn't be surprised to see more trials like this in what's left of the season. They may cost points now, but I'd see it as early work to avoid banana skins in September.

Good morning nick, that's a very interesting take on the selection, and I certainly didnt think about looking at it that way. :-)
titchy winger if you had heard the full interview scott did after the game last week, you could hear how hurt and let down by the players he was. Let alone frustrated , we know what this group of players can do on form, the problem is this just hasn't been consistent, which as a supporter means even more frustration. Too many times this season excuses have been made instead of being honest and upfront, hard league,not played for 2 weeks, heavy going pitch, officials poor. If the team is good enough, it adapts its tactics and still wins games .Scotts honesty was very refreshing...we need the players to be honest with the supporters..its not just about tomorrow ..the rest of the season still beckons with plenty of games still to be fought
