In a week which saw Hull City manager Peter Taylor step up his search for a new striker, Danny Allsopp reminded the manager what he is capable of with a brace of goals against Wrexham to end the Tigers winless run.

While all the attention was on the return of Stuart Elliott to the City line up, the Australian was given the nod to play upfront along-side Nick Barmby in what was only his 13th start of the season.

The first goal came after a header from Damien Delaney was spilled by Wrexham keeper Ben Foster, and Danny Allsopp was in the correct position to bundle the ball home. The second was set up by Elliott, who headed a Jason Price cross down inside the box for the waiting Allsopp to finish smartly.

Wrexham, who turned up with an under strength team due to a flu outbreak, scored in the second half after a fine half-volley from Hector Sam flew past Myhill in the City goal. The Dragons thought they could possibly snatch a point in the last 15 minutes with the home side looking increasingly nervous.

Despite a few late scares, City deservedly claimed the 3 points and Allsopp has looked to have secured his position as first choice striker for the next few games. Tuesday night will see the Tigers travel to Milton Keynes Dons with renewed confidence.

Danny Allsopp: "It's been frustrating this season. For one reason or another, I've not been a regular in the side. I've just tried to keep going... The last few times I've scored, I haven't started the next game so it would be nice to be involved tomorrow night."

Peter Taylor: "When you've got good strikers at a club and at least two of them aren't scoring, then you give someone else a chance... He has lacked confidence this season, but he's a caring boy and he wants to do well... I'm sure Saturday will do him the world of good."
