The English League Cup Round One has now passed. bladesfc.co.uk look at the first round to assess some giant killing games.

Their were games that went as expected but their were a few that you thought that some teams could cause a upset, Swansea was one of them as they faced Wolves at the Vetch field but after Wolves managed to pull back a 1-0 Swans goal, Wolves ended up winning 3-2.

Other giant killings were made by Wrexham who beat sorry Bradford 2-1. The results for League Cup are as follows:

For our local teams bladesfc.co.uk thought that maybe for once that all the teams would have gone through, sadly it didn't. Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham United all managed it.

It was Barnsley who were odd ones out as they lost away at Macclesfield. The Silkmen took the lead after 30 minutes but the Tykes found a leveler just 5 minutes from time through Rankin. In extra time Town went on a goal hunt and found three with Whittaker getting a hat-trick.

In the next round Premier League teams who are not in UEFA Cup or Champions League will enter the tournament and United could end up with one of those teams.

The draw for round two is this Saturday and I hope that we are drawn against a local side such as Chesterfield or Huddersfield Town at Bramall Lane.

Neil Warnock has expressed his opinion by stating on BBC Radio Sheffield that he does not normally take this competition seriously but his aim this season is take United as far as he can.

However he would have to brake the League Cup jinx as United have not got past round 3 of the competition for over ten years.
