Dissapointment tonight as Preston slipped to defeat away at Nottingham Forest. Two late goals ensured Forest took all three points. Kris Commons inspired struggling Forest to victory over high-flying Preston. Preston loan keeper Chris Day tipped over a Commons shot after 10 minutes before Eddie Lewis forced a good save from Paul Gerrard.

Day again saved from Commons and from Gareth Taylor, while Forest had a penalty appeal turned down after the keeper appeared to catch David Johnson.

But Commons crossed for Paul Evans to score the opener before he beat Day with a superb lob shortly afterwards.

Nottingham Forest boss Gary Megson said:

"You'd have problems saying that we deserved it because we were up against it out there for a long time. "And with that in mind you'd have to say that it's a marvellous result for us. We needed it to kick-start things and to take the pressure off all of us.

"There's a long way to go though and we are going to need a comeback of biblical proportions to get out of trouble in this league."

Preston boss Billy Davies said:

"It's frustrating because we had so much of the play. "We put in so many crosses and controlled things but we just didn't seem to be able to get on the end of anything.

"I felt that was as good as we've controlled a game in a long, long time and some of our play out there was first class."
