Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate is refusing to be fazed by ongoing discussions over his future. It is understood the Premier League have asked for talks with Boro's Steve Gibson at the regular meeting of top-flight chairmen next week as they attempt to thrash out a solution to the situation.

He was appointed during the summer despite not having the required UEFA Pro-Licence and the 12-week dispensation period allowed by the rules runs out in nine days' time.
Boro have been confident from the off that they would win permission, but Southgate is simply getting on with his job.
He said: "What will be will be, as far as I am concerned. I am very relaxed about it.
"If somebody turns around and says I cannot do it, I cannot do it. I very much want to do it, I am honoured to have the position.
"I feel I have a point to prove here and I intend to take this club forward.
"The backing I need is the backing of the chairman, which I have got. Everyone else will hopefully find a solution which is acceptable to all parties.
"I am just getting on with my job. My position stays the same. There is nothing I can do to influence or affect anything, nor would I want to.
"I am committed to the education programme that is in place - at the moment it is difficult to find a solution as to how quickly those qualifications can be done.
"But the most important thing for me is to concentrate on the job the chairman has given me here.
"I continue to enjoy that challenge and I want to get us further up the table. That is the most important thing and the only thing on my mind."
With his own position the topic for debate, Southgate is ready to hand defender Abel Xavier a second chance.
The 33-year-old former Portugal international has played two reserve games for the club since the end of his 12-month drugs ban, and discussions over a contract are now reaching a conclusion.
Southgate said: "We are in discussions with him about signing a contract. I think we are pretty much agreed and it is good for us.
"He is an experienced player and he is very popular with the lads here.
"His belief is that there has been a great injustice. He has wanted to fight to clear his name through this period of time, and he is the only person who knows the real story.
"For us, it is a case of allowing him the opportunity to rebuild his career.
"I do not think it is for me to judge the rights and wrongs of the sentence or anything else, but he wants to come back and play and we have said all along we would give him the opportunity to come and train with us with a view to, if he was looking good, signing back with us.
"We feel he has shown us he is at a level to come into our squad."
Xavier, who protested his innocence from the off, was initially banned for 18 months after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance after the UEFA Cup trip to Xanthi last September.
He told the club's official website: "The only thing I can say is I am ready, I am ready because I know I can provide, I know I can do the job I did before.
"My feeling is that I never left this club. I looked at my situation as something that was out of my control.
"But I do not think Middlesbrough Football Club would have opened the door if they did not think I was capable of doing a job."

A GUARANTEED PROFIT ON SHEFFIELD UNITED v BOLTON
It's a full Premiership programme this weekend including a tie at Bramall Lane between Sheffield United and Bolton at 3:00 Saturday afternoon and we can guarantee you a profit on the match, whatever the result.
You won't be able to do this if you already have accounts with one or more of the bookies we are using for this bet but if that is the case, mail us and let us know which accounts you have and we'll send you an alternative bet.
We're going to lay out a total of £143.00 on the match and we will collect £176.50 plus a free £50 bet if it's a draw. If either team wins we will get all of our money back plus a free £50 bet.
Here's how it's done. Just follow these simple instructions.
1. Open accounts with Premier Bet and Totesport
and Extrabet
. This shouldn't take you any longer than ten minutes.
2. Make the following deposits into your new accounts. Deposit £50.00 into your new Premier Bet account. Deposit £60.00 into your new Totesport
account. Deposit £33.00 into your new Extrabet
account.
3. Now make the following bets.
Place £50.00 on the draw at 3.20 (11/5) with Premier Bet.
Place £60.00 on Bolton at 7/5 with Totesport
Place £33.00 on Sheffield United at 19/10 with Extrabet
You have temporarily laid out a total of £143.00. I stress, temporarily... Now sit back, crack a beer open and enjoy the match.
4. Here's what happens at the end of the game.
If it's a draw, you will collect £176.50 from Premier Bet, including your stake back and your first win bonus. This money can be withdraw immediately.
Premier Bet pay a bonus if your first bet is a winner which is tiered according to the odds. So with this bet you will collect the following if it's a draw.
£110.00 winnings plus a 15% bonus of £16.50 plus your £50.00 stake back which equals £176.50.
If Bolton win, you will collect £144.00 from Totesport. This money can be withdraw immediately.
Totesport will then credit your new account with a free £50.00 bet, whatever the result of the match.
If Sheffield United win, you will collect £143.20 from Extrabet. This money can be withdraw immediately.
Extrabet also pay a bonus on your first bet. What they do is match your first bet up to £25.00 so if Sheffield United win, you will collect the following:
£62.70 winnings, plus £47.50 winnings from your free matched bet plus your £33.00 stake back which equals £143.20.
5. This means that the worst case scenario on the Sheffield United v Bolton match is Sheffield United win and you make £0.20 profit plus a free £50.00 bet. But if it's a draw you make £33.50 profit plus a free £50.00 bet.
6. It is absolutely vital that you click on the links on this page to open the accounts with the three bookies or you may not qualify for the bonuses.
Also, before you place your bets, you should check that the odds haven't changed. They rarely do but if they have, the figures here will no longer be valid.
Also, please note that the bonuses and free bets are not always paid immediately and you may have to wait until Monday morning before they hit your account.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions at all about this bet and we will come straight back to you.
Please note that the free bets and bonuses are valid for new customers only so if you already have an account with one or more of the bookies we are using, you won't be able to do this. If that is the case, contact us and we'll mail you an alternative bet using different bookies.
This method of betting was used very successfully during the World Cup and you can read all about how it was done right here.
It's understandable that some people will not believe that it is possible to do this. "What's the catch?" I hear you asking. My answer to that question is that we have been publishing arbitrage bets for three seasons now and literally hundreds of people have profited from following the advice on these pages.
Just enjoy the profit and stay posted for many more of these throughout the season.
