The pluses are that he knows the players, the staff and more importantly the young talent that is in the club. The against argument is centred on the lack of managerial experience.

Can Southgate make the transition? Will he be tactically aware and will he be able to deal with the pressure. He certainly looks potentially an exciting young manager.

It should be a smooth transition but they need to blood some youngsters and they need them to blossom and step up to the plate. But it could well be a season of struggle if things start sluggishly.

Southgate has promised to play attacking football this season, but it could backfire if the Boro defence are not on top of their game. An interesting season ahead and it could well be a tough time for the new kid on the block.
