James McFadden was difference between Motherwell and Clyde today, the young striker bagged a double which sent the ' Steelmen into the quater finals.

The Motherwell fans turned out in huge numbers to cheer on the side, the official attendance was 5,032 which in my view meant we had at least 3,000 in our end as the locals didn't turn out in large numbers.

Terry Butcher dropped David Cowan and young striker David Clarkson to the bench allowing Dougie Ramsay and goal hero McFadden to start. Clyde were unchanged from their win against Arbroath two weeks ago.

James McFadden sealed our win with a goal in each half but it was Clyde who started the more hungrier of the two sides and had a few chances early on, ex - Motherwell striker Willie Falconer caused problems for the visitors with his physical presence and ex Rangers midfielder David Hagen hitting the side netting after 20 minutes.




McFadden opened the scoring four minutes before the break with our first shot on target, Hammell split the Clyde defence and the youngster used his pace to break through and strike the ball into the far corner leaving the Clyde Keeper with no chance.





McFadden doubled his tally on the 77 minute mark beating the keeper with a fine finish from the edge of the box after running clear of the Bully Wee defence. Alan Kernaghan brought on ex - Celtic forward Paul Sheilds but he failed to convert any chances.
