Ali Bernabia has been voted supporters player of the season in what has been his first season as a City player. The award is his second in recent days, the other being his selection by fellow pros into the divisional team of the season. Ali arrived at Maine Road back in October, after stopping off for lunch with his and Alain Toure's agent at City's Carrington training ground. He was on his way back from talks with Sunderland but chose City after being impressed by both the club and manager. The rest is history. City were going through a rough patch when he arrived and he was thrown straight into the first team for the visit of Birmingham. City won the game 3-0 and Bernabia dominated the midfield. Since then he has transformed City's season and is probably the main reason City sit 10 points clear, having already won the title. The award is thouroughly deserved and looks set to be followed by victory in the mcfconline player of the season vote, he already commands 54% of the vote. Ali is set to be rewarded by the club with a one year extension to his current contract. The new deal will mean Bernabia finishing his career at The City of Manchester Stadium, a suitable arena to take his bow. Shaun Wright-Phillips took the young player of the year award for the third year running.

Today's transfer rumour

Various news sources are today linking City with a move for Derby County's ex rag, Danny Higginbotham. Rumours abound that Higginbotham will leave Derby for around £5 million when, not if, they are relegated. The main source of the story seems to be from today's Sun, so read into that what you like. If correct it proves that the Rags continue to be a feeder club for City. Personally I say wait until next week for the real links to surface and believe nothing until you know they have signed. At present we are being linked with at least two players a day.
