Jamie Carragher was set a three goal target challenge for this season by Rafa Benitez. One third of that target has now been achieved with Carra’s first goal in five years, against Kaunas in the champions league qualifier. Rafa said:

"I thought it was a good result for us. When they scored I was a bit worried but I always have a lot of confidence in my team.

"We scored three goals and could have added a couple more at the end when we missed some clear chances. In the end 3-1 will do and we will continue to get better as we play more games."

Benitez also played down fears about Steven Gerrard's fitness after the skipper left the action in the second half.

He said: "Steven has a slight muscle problem but it's nothing serious. We decided to make the change just to be sure."

The Liverpool boss also again refused to discuss Milan Baros' future at Anfield after the Czech ace was left out of the 18 man squad for the tie.

"I am a lucky manager," he said. "I have a number of good strikers and I am able to rotate them. I have a lot of options."
