Win, lose or draw Tuesday night, and let’s hope it’s a glorious win, Liverpool Football Club, like their neighbours Everton, have proven the football world wrong.
How stupid do all those opposing fans look now with their ‘Champions League, yer ‘avin a laugh’? How totally stupid are the professional pundits who’ve had us out at every round?
Only we, the fans, the team and club as whole, have had belief this season. We were the ones who listened closely to Rafael Benitez’s every word and we related to what we heard and liked what we saw. Once again it was a joy to go to Anfield where we really turned it on those first couple of months. No more ‘hoof,’ but flowing football, a new world class talent to drool over in Xabi Alonso (thank you Rafa) a new ‘old’ way of playing football. The ‘Liverpool way’. Old players looking like new signings. A few brilliant wins, notably the one against the best footballing side in the country, Arsenal. Yes, we knew that though other fans and press hinted at, or blatantly said, Houllier MK2, there was no comparison. We had gotten ourselves a class manager (thank’s Mr Moores, Mr Parry).
So many people joyfully telling us we were now second rate, our history meant nothing. It’s true we still aren’t among the top three but we know we are going to be in the next few years. And what of our history, our glorious second to none history? It surely makes a mockery of Jose’s remark about 99.9 % of Liverpool supporters thinking we are already through. The poor man doesn’t understand that many, many of us have been there, done it, seen it all before. We aren’t the nouveau Chelsea fan Jose, you should have more respect. We know what our job is Tuesday night, have known for over fourty years, not for nothing did the great Shanks call us the best twelfth man in the game. We are experienced, what the Kop does today all other supporters follow. It was Liverpool fans who first started singing at football matches. It was we who first reworked songs specifically for our team, and nobody has as many songs as us as you are about to find out. The world famous Spion Kop at Anfield has been through it all Jose, unlike your new fans and your team. Read our banners Jose, most of which have been to all corners of the world. See what a decked out Red and white Kop looks like, know that these fans will use anything in their artillery to help their team to victory, feel the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end as you hear a magnificent rendering of our song ‘You’ll never Walk Alone’, not just from the Kop but the whole of Anfield, and then look at your new, pathetic lot of fans with a few bought at the gate small CFC flags. Here’s hoping you get the fright of your lives.
It’s time for revenge of that game at Anfield and the Carling Cup final. Both of which we should have won. So, Liverpool supporters everywhere, now’s the time to show your worth no matter where you are in the world. Will us to win with everything that is inside of you, the sweet silver song is only ninety minutes away.
C’mon You Reds……
