Tom Hicks has come out and admitted that he and his fellow owner of Liverpool, George Gillet, have now admitted that they had talks with Jurgen Klinsman with a view to becoming manager should they have to replace Rafa Benitez. If Mr Hicks believes this statement has endeared them to Reds fans or lessened the disillusionment the fans feel, he is sadly mistaken. He said:

"In November, when it appeared we were in danger of not advancing in the Champions League, weren't playing well in our Premier League matches, and Rafa and we were having communication issues over the January transfer window, George and I met with Jurgen Klinsmann to learn as much as we could about English and European football,"
 
"He is a very impressive man. We attempted to negotiate an option, as an insurance policy, to have him become our manager in the event Rafa decided to leave our club for Real Madrid or other clubs that were rumoured in the UK press, or in case our communication spiralled out of control for some reason.
 
"After George and I had our long and productive meeting with Rafa following the Man United match, we put all of our issues behind us and received Rafa's commitment that he wanted to stay with Liverpool.
 
"We never reached agreement on an option with Jurgen, and we are both pleased for him that he has a great opportunity to return to Germany and coach a great club team.
 
"Rafa has both of our support, and our communication has greatly improved.
 
"Foster, Rick Parry and Rafa now have regular meetings at Melwood on Monday mornings.
 
"The two families always try to have a telephonic meeting on Monday afternoons, so we all are on the same page. We all want to win more games."

First the stadium fiasco, and now this. Hicks has used up any credibility he had with this addmission. Personally I see Rafa's "pouting" in a completely different light now, given that he was probably aware that his Bossess were offering his job to the rookie German coach. Rick Parry's silence over the last few weeks reeks of a man interested only in preserving his own job and not doing what is best for the club. Its spurs all over again, Rafa is in the exact same position Martin Jol found himself in a few months ago, and the worst thing is we as supporters can only sit back in horror and watch the farsical soap opera unfold. Personally I wouldn't hold it against Rafa if he walked away, as it is he really is a deadman walking.

Chelsea did the same thing last season with Klinnsman. In fact, Grant, while he was supposedly director of football at Portsmouth, is supposed to have had the meeting with Klinnsman on Abramovich´s behalf.

Alright der Dixon funny old game is it not ! How the fortunes of Maureen and Rafa have changed ,still like to think Rafa will ride the storm but things obviously are not right.

Rafa has to stand his ground rather than resign. They obviously want him to step down and avoid a pay off (which is naive of them).

All they are achieving with their public comments re Klinnsman is undermining the manager which could affect the team.

Moores has got a lot to answer for.

And no-one is more aware of that than David Moores. He is absolutely fuming that they've gone back on their promises. What they plan to do, he could have done himself, but knew being 'only' a millionnaire didn't get your club very far these days.

The owners really should have been advised by Moores & Parry
before doing any behined closed door deals as this sort of thing should not go on at our club. As there relevaty new in this game.

Dixon your way off the mark with David Moores he sweated blood to hand the club over to the right people ,he must be physically sick at the way the Americans are behaving

As I understand it they were only trying to put together a back-up plan. What's the problem with that? None of us know what the dialogue's been like between the owners and Benitez and to be honest, I for one cannot believe his attempt on winning the Premiership. The game against Reading being a good case in point!

He also got an extra few million by going with Waldorf and Stadtler instead of DIC didn´t he?

Yes he did get more money but it was never about that for Davey Moores.

DIC had to make a concrete offer by a certain date, and if they didn't then the club was open to offers, of which, David Moores was bound by law to inform the rest of the board. The Yanks made an offer and before the board either accepted or rejected it DIC walked away in a huff, leaving the Yanks as the only buyers.

David Moores is devastated by all that's happened since.
