Dirk Kuyt is fast becoming a hero at Anfield and not only because he’s scored two goals in a week, but for his hard work and attitude in every game. He’s also quick to recognise the fans contribution to his chosen profession as was evident on Saturday as he applauded all four corners of the ground before being the last down the tunnel.
He did the same on Wednesday when he helped his team to beat Newcastle 2-0 at Anfield.

He said:

"I always go to the fans at the end of the game," explains Kuyt, "at least I do when I score! I see it as respect for the supporters, as a way of thanking them for the incredible backing they give us. It was something I used to do at Utrecht and Feyenoord, because I like to thank them. I do it after every game if I score goals.

"It's wonderful to play in front of supporters like these. They seem to respect me already and I wanted to show the same for them at the end. Everyone has been really good since I arrived, trying to help as I settled in and it's important to show respect back to supporters.

"It has been a good week for the team and me, but I know I have to play better still. It's getting better but I think there is another 10 or 20 per cent to come. I have to pass better and link with the players around me because I can create as well as score. I have to get used to more things here but the players have helped me so much to settle in."
