Well, I know most of you have had enough of rumours, but this time there is a lot of substance to this particular rumour.

Today, huge media companies, the likes of Sky Sports and SportingLife are suggesting that Tranmere have nearly completed a bid for Barnsley play maker, Chris Shuker.

The tiny midfielder has constantly stalled on contracts Barnsley have thrown at him, and has attracted a lot of attention from other clubs. Oldham were also believed to be very close to the signature of the player, but have lost interest after it seems they have lost out to a League One club, yes, that is us, Tranmere Rovers.

After not being able to secure a place down at Manchester City, he spent the next three years being shipped out on loan to various clubs. This was until he was snapped up by Barnsley, who had been impressed with him, while out on loan. Since signing for the Tykes he has had 50 starts and 6 sub appearances, and in that time has scored 8 goals, but his main game is assisting players.

With Paul Hall gone, a player who created a lot of goals, Shuker could be the best person to fit the bill, but with rumours claiming that Tranmere are also set to sign Liverpool winger Ritchie Partridge, Chris may have to fight for his place, at first. Sky Sports seems to believe that Shuker will be sealing a deal in the next couple of days, mainly because Tranmere can offer what he wants in wages, where as no-one else can, leaving Oldham empty handed.

But Oldham are also set to sign another player, ex Rovers striker, Scott Taylor, who moved to Plymouth last season. His time at Plymouth hasn't been a great one, with only starting 9 times and grabbing 3 goals, so are the reformed Oldham ready to seal the striker?
