Tranmere's gates last season were pretty poor for a side constantly contesting for the much valued automatic promotion spot. Hull City and Luton both got very high attendances which would have brought in some welcome revenue. With Tranmere boasting a stadium holding nearly 17,000 you would hope that with the lowest ticket prices in the league the stadium would be filled, but unfortunately that is not the case. If Tranmere were to have gone up this season the promotion would not just have meant three day parties, thousands of hang-overs and undescribable ecstacy but it would have meant at least half a million pounds.

A League One play-off final at the millenium stadium generates about 500,000 pounds in gate money for both the teams playing plus they can look forward to lucrative gate sales for the next season. Tranmere get around 300 away supporters attending an average League game but if they were to take one step closer to the 'big time' they would see there away gate sales increase enormously to around 2000. The penalty Shoot out against Hartlepool United now means a whole lot more than just Championship football. All this revenue at Tranmere would have been welcomed with open arms but, unfortunately it isn't to be. We do how ever have some good news on the financial side. Lorraine Rogers the Tranmere Rovers Chairperson has gifted Tranmere Rovers with some Transfer funds for the forth coming season, this now gives the club the chance to achieve that lucrative play-off final dream. Last season Lorraine was aiming for the play-offs for Tranmere and this season she is aiming to go one better.

"You start off every season looking to improve on the one you have just had," Lorraine said. "We finished third so there is only first or second as far as I'm concerned."

This is the confidence that is needed in the air around Prenton Park and hopefully along with a few signings it will boost the players into the Championship.

Last season Lorraine released funds into tranmere's transfer funds and as aresult saw Tranmere enter the season as promotion favourites. But it wasn't to be. Will Tranmere be playing in England's second tier of football next year or will the Kop be left once again silenced as the Championship door closes on them?
