I suppose if you use numerical counting we're a bit past the mid-season fixture point. 28 games in, 18 left. If our season is going to ignite, spark up like a formula 1 racing car, then it should have happened by now. Trouble is, at this point, we look like an old Skoda. We're not going to the scrapyard just yet, but nor will we be bombing down the fast lane with the Bizzies racing after us.

Everyone knows that our problem is not the fact that we don't score many goals, not the fact that some players haven't lived up to expectations, but the fact that our manager seems to have lost the ability to move us forward. We all got a bit excited by the events of the transfer window. A few declared it the best January window we have ever had. In the Fisch family we were less convinced. Still are. We have signed some decent players, no doubt, but it's the same organ grinder, with a single tune that isn't getting us excited. 

What should we now do? We have a Chairman who has said in the past he was never going to sack Micky, so Mellon and Palios will continue until the end of the season.  Micky's contract is, apparently, up then. My question is about what we should do with players in our remaining games. We may only be 4 points off the playoffs, but the gulf that is really there was demonstrated by the quality of the performance last Saturday. We lost by the odd goal in 5, but we were out played and out muscled across the game. The score was deceptive, same as that gap between our current League position and the play offs. 

I would like to see the club invest in utilising players who will still be in contract next season.The more game exposure the younger lads can get the more likely they are to make a positive contribution next term. That doesn't mean dropping players who are likely to be off, but we could start some of them from the bench. Maybe playing Hemmings as an in pact sub, with Burton on from the start, will deliver a more positive impact. Just sticking with what is currently not working particularly well will deliver the same kind of results and performances, with an absence of 'oomph'. 

In the mean time maybe our Board could start thinking about who we might appoint as our new manager. We should know who will be available for next season, and what Mr Mellon's ambitions are. I strongly suspect they are not to continue at Prenton Park.

Regardless, what we really need to do is enjoy the matches and support the team. Whoever pulls the shirt on, whoever runs out for us, we need to get behind them.

In all honesty I think the goal is to prepare for a big push next season, although we will be competing with big spending Wrexham and.. if they are still in our division... Stockport and Gillingham.
Also we stay clear of trouble - the teams at the bottom are starting to pick up some form, with the exception of Rochdale.
