Is he the latest "Tranmere fan boy fantasy" then?

He's been good but he's played 3 games or something.

Can we at least see a few months worth before we start hailing him the new God of Wirral. Are we favourites for the World Cup now with him?

A decent start but so it should he for a 1.5 million player in the 4th division!

Turnbull was our standout defender at the start of the season. He hasn't got any worse, but Simeu is starting to show real class and has surpassed Turnbull. Not a bad problem to have. Hopefully we'll be seeing a lot more of him at this level.

For me Simeu highlights how bad our other options are in this position. I really do hope that he is here for the season

I don’t know but, if it was a stress fracture as they were saying, he should be fit well before January.

There were a few eyebrows raised in the football world when we signed Simeu, many believing he was too good to return to L2. If all goes well for the lad we’ll do well to hold onto him after January, especially if Saints are still keen to progress him. A fit Davies would cushion that blow.

Early days but so far so good. Biggest difference he makes is his pace. He seems to relish a one v one foot race. We haven’t had a CB with a decent turn of pace for years. Turnbull is no slouch either.

Certainly potential in our current pairing, they have everything between them and compliment each other so well. Although early days as mentioned, if I had to choose I would pick Turnbull & Simeu over Clarke & Davies any day. Carry on like the last 2 games and will be interesting to see if a fit Davies returns to the starting 11 when fit.

As alluded to and I’ve mentioned previously, it just highlights how Jameson and particularly Byrne are nowhere near it. They can both go for me.

It depends on how you look at things I suppose. Liverpool fans could have used either Gomez or Matip in a similar analogy when Van Dijk was signed.

Sometimes a new signing is a big improvement on a so-so or poor player and other times a minor improvement on a quality existing resource. In this instance Simeu seems to represent vital quality, but perhaps not quality too far above what already exists.

After all Simeu has hardly been playing several games in the early season attacking style, he has assimilated into a standard 4-4-2 for the most part. Were he to have had 5-6 matches in the original system, had he been signed in the summer, he might have been found a little wanting, but could have still possibly offered enough.

Whatever his perceived talents versus other players, he certainly is adding something sound and reliable it seems to the defense, so hopefully he continues to impress.

🤣 your right, if I had to keep one or the other it would be Jameson over Byrne. He’s still relatively young & inexperienced and he did improve after the horror show debut, there’s potential (years) for improvement.

Jameson has at least some aggression, Which I think you need as a CB in L2. Byrne has zero aggression, isn’t dominant in air, can’t handle someone running at him and I haven’t seen anything to suggest he is good distributor of the ball. Davies probably isn’t any better distribution wise, but he makes up for it with his will to win, tackling & heading ability.

For me, Byrne is a bottom half L2 defender at best. I know this may seem harsh after a handful of games but he just seems to coast through games - in a bad way. Think it’s also telling when only given a 1 year deal, doesn’t show much faith rather we’l see how he goes with a option for another year which sensible but atm I hope we don’t take. Must of been Joe Murphy influence sticking his nose in for his Irish friend, he lives by me and his family and friends are Tranmere fans, caveated with he’s 29 had 1 full season in the football league and almost got relegated 🤦🏼‍♂️Some work out, most don’t.

Speaking of contracts, what we need to be doing is getting Cogley tied down to another new deal asap, can’t believe we didn’t over the summer. This strategy of getting players out in & developing with intention to sell on, will soon come back to bite Palios as we will developing and loosing them for nothing. If we wait until the new year, like we did with Nors, he will already have L1 clubs in his ear. Probably already has, which I think we missed the boat not offering him one sooner.

There was supposed interest from Aberdeen in the summer until they went for the Forest youngster, not sure how true but I heard they wouldn’t pay what we valued him at.

This season, I’m yet to see a better FB in the league and would say he’s up there as he e of the best, if not the best. Wilson last year was a different level but also had 2 in form strikers getting on the end of crossess. O’Keefe from Rochdale who coincidentally has replaced Wilson was also a FB who impressed me, particularly at their place.

Playing against higher opposition in Newcastle and even last week against Bolton Cogley stood out, for me there would be plenty in for him on a free.

Point is, if we don’t keep our players who show the best promise in contract then we will inevitably lose them for nothing, so this Palios strategy we are yet to reap reward from will never see us generating money from sales.

I think we sold Watson to finance/balance books for the Hemmings deal but other than that, last player we sold I think was Norburn.

You're right I had forgotten about the Aberdeen interest, but then again I was focusing mainly on the January interest angle.

You are also correct of course that key players being left in a position to move for nothing, is a cash poor situation, so getting them tied down on deals that allow transfer revenue is key, as the money can be plowed into improving wage offers to new deals for a few years.

Anyone considered the players thoughts in this, like he might not want to sign a new deal!

He was a little off the pace in his first game but I think the only reason Ross is still starting in goal is because Turnbull and Simeu are bailing him out.

Rovers fans have already taken to him unsurprisingly & his joy at the final whistle was great to see. He then stayed on the pitch when all other players had left the pitch to pose with some young fans! Good stuff!

Indeed, his heart seems to be really in it. Kudos to the lad.

Best loan signing for a long time. Our best player. I was literally 32 when he was born. My daughter is older than him, and I still have to pay her car insurance. I should imagine Simeu pays his own car insurance and probably has a box to lower his own car insurance, and or he's on his mum's car insurance. Young quality footballers at Tranmere is probably unheard of. MoM
